💰🧑⚖️ Additional Funding for the Ontario Justice System
Correspondence from Northumberland County, June 21: https://barrie.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13052733&GUID=19E4BE6B-ADF5-4CF1-A9FF-9881B878C230
Calling on all levels of government to give additional funding to Ontario's legal system, to hire additional court staff, with specific focus on additional assistant Crown Attorneys, in order to resist what they refer to as "catch and release" practice of the justice system
It is disheartening that they used this phrase as the title and in the body of this correspondence. Referring to human beings as fish or prey is highly prejudiced, as are many of the statements of claim in the document's "Whereas" points - several breaches of federal and provincial Human Rights codes, not to mention the presumption of innocence that serves as a bedrock of our justice system.
