🚨⛺️ Declaration of Emergency re: Encampments
Letter from Mayor to Prime Minister, September 18: https://barrie.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=14789096&GUID=FBAD8A16-89ED-40E0-BB02-5983AA1B678A
Requesting federal action on the growing crisis of homelessness and unsafe encampments in the City of Barrie
Also applying false causation and other logical fallacies, and adding to the stigma of homelessness by implying all homeless people living in encampments are thieves and murderers and drug addicts.
Also going against the Accessible Canada Act and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (both of which specifically define addiction as a disability) by implying that people living with addictions are therefore not entitled to equal treatment or rights
Also calling upon the Notwithstanding Clause to rob these already-vulnerable people of their human rights under not just Canadian, but International Law.
Also claiming that 39 of the 44 individuals removed from the courthouse encampment have accepted supports and housing - when there was no housing available to be offered.
Also calling upon the federal government to dive into provincial jurisdiction and provide the services the province is responsible for.
