The Public Meetings are now being held in person OR by electronic participation.
If you wish to provide oral comments electronically, please register in advance by emailing: cityclerks@barrie.ca or calling 705-739-4220 x5500 during regular office hours prior to Wednesday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Once you register, you will be provided information from the Legislative Services Branch on how to make your submission at the Virtual Public Meeting with electronic participation. To participate in the Virtual Planning Meeting, you will need access to a computer with internet service or a telephone.
If you decide to speak after the meeting has started, you need to email cityclerks@barrie.ca or call 705-797-5353.

Proposal to allow for the development of a 7-storey mixed use apartment with 196 dwelling units and 717 square metres of ground floor commercial space

Seeking to amend zoning from "Residential Single Detached Dwelling First Density" (R1) to "Mixed Use Corridor with Special Provisions" (MU2 SP-XXX)
Requested special provisions include:
front yard area to have soft landscaping, instead of being fully paved
side yard setback reduced to 0.0m to daylight triangle (currently min.3m)
side yard setback increased to maximum 11.1m (currently max.3m)
parking structure setback reduced to 0.6m (currently 1.8m)
lot coverage for required parking increased to 38.6% maximum (currently 35%)

These two Public Meetings were combined. There were a number of members of the public speaking, all but one of which were against the proposal. There was one heart-wrenching speaker who did get quite a bit off track from the issues that can be addressed at a Public Meeting, but painted a real-life picture of why better and stronger policies are needed around affordable housing, especially what needs to be in place if a developer is tearing down affordable housing in order to build.
