The province has introduced this tool to allow municipalities to specifically request that the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing issue a zoning order.
A CIHA can be used to regulate use of land to permit certain types of development ā the municipality is responsible for providing public notice, undertaking consultation, and ensuring the order is made available to the public.
A CIHA can be used to expedite priority developments, including community infrastructure, any type of housing, development associated with transportation infrastructure, buildings that would facilitate employment and economic development, and mixed use development

Fort Erie has resolved to ask the province to establish a regulatory framework requiring digital platforms such as AirBNB and VRBO to require owners using the platforms to comply with municipal planning and licensing regulations, and prevent advertising of properties that aren't registered with the relevant municipality.
They are also asking the province to work with municipalities to address situations in which long-term housing stock has been lost to corporate ownership of short-term rental properties.
