An update to the ongoing recovery and clean-up operations
The City is currently in Phase 3 of recovery, which includes stump removal of destroyed trees, replanting of trees on streets, parks and natural areas, long term care of damaged trees, Forest Health Assessments and City Canopy assessments

The Worsley Street intersection at Owen Street, and Owen Street south of Worsley are expected to reopen on October 15
On October 16, the closure of Owen Street north of Worsley will be extended to include the McDonald Street intersection, and is expected to remain in place until December 12
Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained, with intermittent interruptions
Work north of McDonald Street is scheduled to begin in the spring, with the project to be completed in summer 2027

Pointing out that the Bill approved by Council had been edited from the original proposed for that meeting (see https://www.engagebarrie.org/post/city-council-wednesday-october-1-2025-7pm), and that the new bylaw does not "prevent individuals from sharing food or drinks with family and friends or necessities to those in need" (again, the originally-proposed Bill 110 DID prevent such things - but Council must have been reminded in time that Human Rights Lawyers would not be dealing too kindly with such a Bylaw)

Batteries are accepted for curbside collection during the first full week of November each year - place battery recycling bags on top of either cart on curbside collection day (NOT INSIDE)
Due to the postal strike, battery bags will not be mailed this year, but will be available for pickup at select City facilities - you can also use clear, sealable bags
